Silicon valley-based embedUR Systems has entered into an exclusive partnership with U.S. based Synaptics Inc to create affordable, AI-powered edge solutions for India’s smart device market.
The partnership will focus on developing solutions across areas such as smart home devices, manufacturing processes, medical monitoring and automobile driver assistance systems,” said embedUR Systems Founder and CEO Rajesh Subramaniam during media interaction.
The embedded technology firm embedUR Systems has most of its employee working in Chennai, while Synaptics is a $1 billion fabless semiconductor manufacturing firm.
According to him, this partnership will make advanced AI technologies more affordable and accessible. Small and medium-sized enterprises will gain tools to improve efficiency and competitiveness, while underserved regions benefit from intelligent, power efficient devices for homes and healthcare among others.
Applications being developed through this collaboration are image segmentation, low-latency facial identification and dynamic pose estimation.
Synaptics President and CEO Michael Hurlston said that they aim to address critical challenges, creating long-lasting impact for businesses an individuals alike.
Talking about the partnership, Mr. Hurlston said chips from large companies costs nearly $10,000 and are expensive to be used in small applications. However, Synaptics chips would cost $5-10 and can be used by small companies in different applications.
Asked whether they would start manufacturing chips in India, Mr. Hurlston the company currently outsourced most of its requirements from Taiwan and might look at India to partner with companies on assembly.
