When I first discovered astrocartography in 2021, I had no idea how transformative this astrological tool would be for my travels — and my life. After learning how the planetary energy from my birth chart aligned with specific locations around the world, my travels became more intentional. Every trip started to align me with destined connections and unforgettable, life-changing moments.
Developed in the ’80s, astrocartography is a tool that maps your birth chart placements in different colored lines across a map of the globe. It reveals how planetary energies manifest themselves for you in other parts of the world, leading you to where you might experience love, success, challenges, or transformation based on your birth chart.
It has helped me understand why some cities feel like home while other places in the world present deep challenges. Even as a professional astrologer, I’m still shocked to see how eerily accurate astrocartography truly is as I explore. Below, a few of my most kismet travel experiences using astrocartography and where to find your own.
Pluto & Moon Lines: Transformation and Endings in Los Angeles
- Traveling to your Pluto Line: Deep transformations, endings, possible loss, and rebirth.
- Traveling to your Moon Line: Heightened emotions and family matters will be at the forefront. You may also feel at home, or want to move to these parts of the world.
In 2017, I moved to Los Angeles with nothing but a one-way ticket and two suitcases from my hometown in rural New Hampshire. At the time, I was unaware that my Pluto and Moon lines run along the West Coast. Pluto is a powerful planet, spurring transformation, endings, and rebirth, while the moon governs our emotions, family themes, and a sense of nurturing.
My seven and a half years in LA have been full of emotional upheavals and personal growth. The most profound moment came when my grandfather passed away a few years ago, only for me to find out later that he wasn’t biologically related to me. This experience embodies both Pluto and the moon’s energies: revealing deeply buried secrets about family matters. Living in LA has been one continuous lesson in surrender and self-reinvention.
Venus Line: New Beginnings in New York City
- Traveling to your Venus Line: Beauty, abundance, connection, love, and artistic endeavors.
In 2019, I quit my nearly decade-long career in corporate finance to become a full-time astrologer. Everyone thought I was careless for throwing such a stable job away, but when I booked my first major brand deal in New York City, I found myself flying out immediately to pursue my newfound life path — unaware that NYC sits on my Venus line.
Venus represents beauty and abundance. In my chart, Venus sits natally in Scorpio in my sixth house of work and daily habits, which explains why my first significant professional opportunity happened here. The brand deal was my first as an astrologer, working with a haircare brand – perfectly aligned with Venus’ beauty-focused energy. This also serves as a potent reminder that the position and aspects of your natal planets will heavily dictate how your astrocartography experience will play out IRL. For me, my Venus locations are more work-related than love-focused.
Uranus Line: Independence and Change
- Traveling to your Uranus Line: Sudden and life-altering change, independence, and rebellion. You may leave an old version of yourself behind after experiencing this place/line.
I discovered astrocartography in 2021 and harnessed it to embark on a seven-month solo trip through Europe, Mexico, and the US.
During this trip, I spent a week in Madrid and experienced the energy of my Uranus line for the first time. Uranus is the planet of sudden changes, rebellion, and independence. This trip allowed me to step into a new chapter of self-trust and honestly reminded me that time alone does not inherently signify loneliness. When I returned back home to LA, I felt more confident in myself than ever before, a testament to Uranus’ influence.
Sun Line: Rediscovering Myself in Mexico City
- Traveling to your Sun Line: Confidence, self-discovery, clarity, and purpose awaken on your sun lines. If your sun is positively aspected in your birth chart, these can be great places to live!
One of my favorite parts of that seven-month solo trip was my month in Mexico City, along my sun line. The sun symbolizes our identity, purpose, and confidence, but these places also help you to feel self-assured as others take notice of your light. I was enamored with the rich culture and friendly locals, and I started to connect to myself in a new way while wandering the city’s vibrant streets.
Mexico City helped me form a stronger self-concept, and ironically, my partner is of Mexican heritage. In my birth chart, my natal sun is in my fifth house of romance, and my sun line also runs through the area in Mexico from which his family hails. Your planetary lines not only help you find places to travel to but can show where important people in your life are from, cultures you will resonate with, and so much more.
Mars Line: Intense Shifts in Medellín
- Traveling to your Mars Line: Conflict, intensity, passion, and necessary confrontations that will fuel your personal growth.
In 2022, I took a trip to Medellín, Colombia, with my partner and his friends – a place my Mars line runs through. Mars is the planet of conflict, motivation, passion, and intensity. During my trip, a long-standing group of friends revealed their true colors, acting as the catalyst for a painful but necessary confrontation upon returning to LA. Mars’ aggressive energy pushed me to sever ties with this group, recognizing that they no longer aligned with my life’s direction. The upside? Whatever Mars burns away makes room for the right things (and opportunities) to arrive in your life.
I knew it all happened for the right reason when these old friends spent a year weaponizing a podcast where they referred to me as their “crazy ex-friend,” mocked me and my work, and even went so far as to say my name on one episode and loosely censor it out. Mars’ energy doesn’t mess with the aligned parts of your life, but it lights a match on whatever (or whoever) is not meant for you. I now feel blessed that this trip to my Mars line made space for the mature, loving, and compassionate friendships I now have.
Mercury Line: A Surprise Engagement in Amsterdam
- Traveling to your Mercury Line: Communication, socializing, networking and relationship-building. Great places to live for entertainers, writers, and speakers.
Last but not least, my most recent month-long trip to London, Amsterdam, and Copenhagen with my partner proved to be the most astrologically aligned. When we got to Amsterdam (aka my Mercury line), it facilitated deep, honest conversations that cemented our relationship, aligning with Mercury’s focus on communication, travel, and connection . . . and we became engaged!
The timing also aligned astrologically in both of our charts, with the sun, Mercury, and Venus sitting in my fourth house of home and family and lit up my partner’s fifth house of romance and creativity. From start to end, this trip was magic.
