NEW DELHI: Awadhesh Pratap Singh University held its 12th convocation ceremony on Thursday, December 12, at the Pandit Shambhunath Shukla Auditorium. The event was presided over by the governor of Madhya Pradesh and chancellor of the university, Mangubhai Patel, who distributed gold medals and degrees to the graduating students.
The Awadhesh Pratap Singh University is in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, was established in July 1968 and got UGC recognition in February 1972.
The deputy chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Rajendra Shukla, attended the event as the chief guest, while Shaurya Doval was the special guest.
In his address, Doval highlighted the historical significance of Indian civilization as a center of knowledge, giving examples of ancient institutions like Nalanda, Taxila, and Vikramashila. He noted that universities have historically played a key role in shaping nations and emphasized the need for graduates to contribute to society.
“Historically, when our universities were thriving, our nation and civilization were also vibrant. When foreign invaders attacked our nation, they first targeted our knowledge systems and educational centers, leading to our subjugation. In the early 20th century, people like Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya started universities that became centers of knowledge and nationalism during the freedom struggle and organized thousands of freedom fighters in the fight against colonial rule,” Shaurya Doval said in his address.
He suggested practical ways for graduates to make an impact, such as applying scientific knowledge to assist farmers, using technology to solve problems, employing business management skills to support businesses, and using knowledge of economics to reduce poverty. He urged students to contribute to making India a developed nation by 2047 and emphasized the importance of providing thought leadership to the world.
The governor, along with the deputy chief minister, and vice-chancellor Rajkumar Acharya, awarded a total of 57 gold medals and 82 Ph.D. and postgraduate degrees.
