THE COUNTRYSIDE views at the country’s highest pub are set to get better next year when a new beer garden opens at the boozer.
At 528m above sea level, the Tan Hill Inn in Richmond, Yorkshire, is the highest pub in the UK.

Planning permission to build a two-storey extension and a new beer garden has been approved, reports local newspaper Richmondshire Today.
Five more rooms will also be added as part of the pub’s expansion.
Solar panels will be installed on its roof, with other internal improvements taking place.
Owner Andrew Hields told Richmondshire Today: “We have an excellent relationship with our customers, the Tan Hillers, and as well as more rooms they wanted an outdoor area to take advantage of the inn’s amazing views, more items on the menu and more toilet space”.
It is not yet known when the new beer garden and rooms will open – although the Yorkshire boozer already packs a mighty punch.
Dating back to the 17th century, the Tan Hill Inn is found on a remote hill in the Yorkshire Dales.
The quaint pub overlooks Swaledale and is popular with walkers and ramblers who are tackling the nearby Pennine Way.
Its stone exterior is already charming enough but its inside has plenty of original features, including stone floors and wooden beams.
The pub serves breakfast lunch and dinner, with highlights being their giant Yorkshire puddings and the Tan Hill hot pot.
Pub-goers can also order a pint of Tan Hill Ale alongside other beers and ciders.
Holidaymakers can already book overnight stays in one of the en-suite rooms.
Rooms range from double to family, with options also available for bunk bed dorms and camping when the weather is warmer.
People can even get married at the pub, with the Tan Hill Inn becoming the first Public House to get a license for weddings outside a church or registry office.
Live music nights also take place at the Tan Hill Inn Barn, with the pub hosting bands like the Arctic Monkeys and Scouting for Girls.
The pub was also used as a filming location for TV show Vera.
Back in 2021, 60 people were left trapped in the pub after heavy snow on the Yorkshire Dales.
Becky Longthorp and Gary Bimpson said they were trapped for three days there, and likened it to I’m A Celebrity.
The Tan Hill Inn is a 70-minute drive from Middlesbrough, and it’s a two-hour drive from York.
