In the year 1999, Salman Khan was busy shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. At that time, Salman Khan’s chemistry with Aishwarya Rai made the headlines both on and off-screen in Bollywood. While the two stars starred in SLB’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, the two continued their love off-screen which became one of the most talked-about couples in B-town.
Veteran actress Smita Jayakar, who played Aishwarya’s mother in the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, shared shocking details that only few people knew. She went on to reveal Salman Khan’s possessiveness towards Aishwarya Rai. During a conversation with Rajshri Unplugged, Smita revealed that during a song shoot of Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyaan, where Salman Khan told Bhansali to take a step back from Aishwarya.
Smita recalled, that Salman Khan had a word with Bhansali after he allegedly touched Aishwarya Rai while trying to teach her an important sequence. The veteran actress said, “I remember Sanjay touched Aishwarya like this while explaining the scene, and Salman immediately intervened, saying, ‘Sanjay, Sir, why did you touch her? You are not supposed to do that (sic).”
While the couple completed the film, later on, they never collaborated in movies. Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai’s romance came to an end in Bhansali’s film. Reportedly the couple broke up leading Aishwarya to step down from future projects with Salman Khan.
Salman Khan went on to feature in one of Bhansali’s films released in 2007, however, their next film Inshallah was supposed to be released in 2019, but due to differences, the film was later shelved.
