THERE are two Sky TV tricks that help you make sure you’re watching the very best telly.
If you’re tired of streaming stuff that you end up hating, your Sky remote control can help.
There are a couple of clever ways to use the TV remote’s voice-search function to track down better movies and shows.
SKY TV TRICK #1 – WHAT TO WATCH?
Grab your TV remote and check to see if it has a microphone button.
If it does, you can speak into it and issue commands.
Press the microphone button and say: “What should I watch?”.
Once you release it, Sky will begin processing your command.
And it will show you a “personalised” list of TV based on what you’ve watched – plus some popular options too.
It won’t just be Sky content either: you’ll also get recommendations from the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
And it won’t show you content that you’ve already seen.
That way, you have a perfectly curated selection of content to choose from – rather than scrolling through the same old tired telly.
SKY TV TRICK #2 – FIVE-STAR TELLY
Another clever voice trick is the ability to search for movies with a specific star rating.
That means you can pull up a selection of movies that have all been rated with five stars.
So you know you won’t be getting any duds on the list.
There are two ways to do this.
You can voice-search for either “5 star movies” or “movies rated 5 stars” – both will bring up the same results.
HOW TO SEARCH WITH SKY VOICE REMOTE
Here are some easy commands to try out…
Search for specified movie – “[Movie title]”
Search for specified programme – “[Programme title]”
Search for content which stars specified actor – “[Actor name]”
Search for content directed by specified director – “[Director name]”
Search for movies within specified genre – “[Movie genre]”
Search for sport content within specified genre. Genres include football, F1, Rugby Union, Cricket, and Rugby League – “[Sport genre]”
Search specific channel – “[Channel name]”
Search for movies with a specific star rating – “[x] star movies” “movies rated [x] stars”
Search for content with specified picture format. Picture format includes SD, HD, and Ultra HD – “[Picture format]”
Search for sports, teams or competitions – “[Sport Name]”, “[Team Name]”, “[Competition Name]”
This should pull up a tempting list of the very best that Hollywood has to offer.
OTHER SKY TV REMOTE TRICKS
There are some other Sky TV tricks worth trying out too.
For instance, you can use voice-search to more easily skip ads on Recorded content.
Just press the microphone button and say “fast-forward three minutes”.
It’s much quicker than manually fast-forwarding, and will instantly get you past most ad breaks.
Another clever trick helps you find your TV remote if you’ve lost it.
Just press the Sky Q logo on your TV box – it’s actually a button.
Pressing it will cause your TV remote to beep for 30 seconds, allowing you to easily find it.
If it doesn’t work then it might be because the remote is:
- Not paired with the TV
- Out of range
- Out of battery charge
And finally, there’s a clever trick to instantly find movies even when you’ve forgotten their names.
You can simply voice-search with a famous quote from a movie or TV show.
CAN’T GET VOICE CONTROL TO WORK?
Here are Sky’s official tips for fixing Voice Control…
If Voice Control isn’t working, check your Sky Q remote for problems:
- Remove the battery cover off the body of the Sky Q remote.
- Take out the batteries and insert them again, matching the + and – signs.
- Once the batteries are in place, replace the cover by aligning the catch with the remote body and sliding forward, so it clicks back into place.
Press help (?) on your remote to check it has battery power:
- If the LED light at the top of the remote flashes , then press and hold the Voice Control button. If you don’t see the search screen then replace the batteries, and press the Voice Control button once more.
- If the LED light at the top of the remote doesn’t flash , then check the batteries are in correctly. If they are, replace them with new batteries. Press and hold the Voice Control button, if you don’t see the search screen then pair the remote.
