A MAJOR £15million plan to build dozens of luxury lodges on the shores of an iconic tourist spot has been revealed.
The Seventy Ninth Group, an asset management firm, announced the project after acquiring a 17.5 acre site near to the famous visitor site.
The company, who own a portfolio of leisure and holiday parks, said the purchase signals the “start of an extensive development programme.”
This will include the construction of over 30 two, three and four-bedroom lodges in the Drumnadrochit area of Loch Ness over the next 12 months.
However, it is not understood where the precise location of the development will be at this stage.
The Highlands receives more than 2 million visitors each year with tourism in the region contributing more than £760m to the Scottish economy, the Seventy Ninth Group said.
The family-owned firm was founded by entrepreneur David Webster and his sons, Jake and Curti, and are supported by an experienced board of directors, mostly from a banking and compliance background.
Speaking as the firm made its announcement, Jake Webster, managing director of The Seventy Ninth Group said: “The Scottish Highlands, and Loch Ness in particularly, have long been a top draw for domestic and international tourists seeking stunning natural beauty, rich history, and a quintessential luxury retreat.
“This acquisition represents an exciting opportunity to establish a premier hospitality offering in one of the UK’s most iconic regions.”

The Loch Ness project comes after a spate of lodge building projects across Scotland.
Earlier this month, holiday giant Center Parcs has revealed plans for its first-ever holiday village in Scotland.
The short-break holiday company is developing proposals for a 700 lodge resort in the Scottish Borders.
This summer, the newly renovated Mar Hall – enjoyed by the likes of Harry Styles, Brad Pitt, Liam Gallagher, and Ed Sheeran – submitted to Renfrewshire Council to build 30 luxury woodland lodges within the grounds of its 240-acre estate.

Hilton farm just north of Lochore Meadows Country Park, near Kelty, is set to become a tourist hotspot with 80 holiday lodges, a cafe, and three small retail units to be built at the site.
