Second man charged after ‘suspect item’ discovered at Scots tower block

A SECOND man has been charged after a suspect device was allegedly found in a tower block, causing a number of homes to be evacuated.

A Royal Navy bomb disposal squad carried out a controlled explosion at Overtoun Court in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, on October 28.

Several properties were evacuated as a precaution and residents were allowed back into their homes in the early hours of the following morning.

A 26-year-old man was previously arrested and charged with a firearms offence.

Police Scotland said another man, aged 41, has also been charged in connection with a firearms offence.

He is due to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday, November 11.

Four fire engines and two Incident Response Units from the Scottish Ambulance Service were deployed to the area as part of the alleged incident last month.

Cops sealed off the street while bomb disposal units carried out a sweep of the property.

The “suspect item” was allegedly discovered when officers were searching the property.

Forensics officers had been in the area since the unexplained death of a 58-year-old man in the block on October 17.

However, it’s understood there is nothing to suggest the arrested men or suspect item is linked to the death probe.

A local community centre was opened as a rest cafe for those told to leave their homes.
