The new app will merge multiple existing railway apps into a single, convenient platform.
The Indian Railways is expected to launch its integrated mobile application, tentatively titled ‘super app’ soon.
The one-stop solution for multiple railway-related tasks, including ticket bookings, tracking train progress and checking PNR status, will be made available by December-end.
The upcoming mobile app, being developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), will combine several railway services into a single platform to provide more convenience for passengers.
As per a report by Economic Times, the government is focused on providing a user-friendly experience to travellers through the launch of the app. The super app will be an amalgamation of several existing mobile apps that deal with railway-linked services. It will offer a host of services, such as booking passenger and platform tickets and checking train status.
During a conversation with ET, a senior official said, “IRCTC will continue as the interface between CRIS and passengers buying train tickets. Integration between the planned super app and IRCTC is underway.
IRCTC sees the super app as another avenue for earnings.” The official further added that the upcoming super app will integrate with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
With more than 100 million app downloads, IRCTC Rail Connect is currently the most popular among all Indian Railways applications. It is the one and only platform for reserved rail ticket booking, modification and cancellation.
For the fiscal year 2023-24, IRCTC reported a net profit of Rs 1,111.26 crore against a revenue of Rs 4,270.18 crore. Of this, ticketing contributed to 30.33 percent of the top line by booking more than 453 million tickets during the fiscal, as per the company’s annual report.
The other apps and websites that commuters often use for passenger service include UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System), IRCTC Air, National Train Enquiry System (train status), IRCTC eCatering Food on Track (getting food delivered to train seats), Rail Madad (for complaints and suggestions), TMS-Nirikshan, Satark and PortRead, among others.
Now, with the launch of the unified super app, there will be no need for travellers to download and navigate multiple apps as it will offer a more efficient solution.
