The epitome of indulgence has been unveiled as a Greggs champagne bar, where sausage rolls meet sparkling wine for the perfect pairing.
Savvy foodies with an appetite for luxury can now pair their favourite pastries with top-tier champagnes such as Perrier-Jouët, Bollinger, or Cristal.
This pop-up, nestled by the entrance to Fenwick Food Hall on Northumberland Street, Newcastle, is said to revolutionise snacking with its silver platter service offering a unique twist on beloved British bakes.
The world’s first establishment of its kind, which greeted its first customers last week, is inviting patrons to a lavish experience until New Year’s Eve.
A spokesperson for Greggs declared: “Inspired by 1920s Paris wine bars and paired with champagne from France and Italy – now’s your chance to sip and snack your way through a boujee twist on our iconic menu.”
Designed with a sleek blue aesthetic, this luxurious spot provides “an experience of a lifetime, complete with bubbles, bakes and bliss,” according to Greggs, with guests invited to signal for refills using vintage, crystal bells.
The menu offers a selection of treats including a sausage roll with hot honey sauce or a vegan sausage roll with harissa coconut yoghurt for £4.
Other options include a cheese and onion bake with romesco sauce and almonds or a sausage, bean and cheese melt for £4.50, a steak bake with peppercorn aioli for £4.95, and a chicken bake with katsu curry sauce and pickled cucumber for £4.75, reports the Mirror.
If champagne isn’t your tipple of choice, there’s a range of cocktails priced from £7 to £12, including a Yum Yum Twist, Cream Éclair, Peach Melba, and a Pink Jammie Fizz.
The upscale venue has been causing quite a stir on social media, with Newcastle blogger Beth, known as Nooks of Newcastle, sharing her experience.
“Greggs and champagne? Life has peaked,” she exclaimed. Social media users have been quick to express their excitement, with one saying: “Wait, this is amazing,” while another added: “All I’ve ever wanted was a bolli [Bollinger] and a sausage roll.”
One eager fan declared: “I’m booked in,” while another joked to their partner: “If you don’t take me here we’re done.”
Another agreed, stating: “We have to go.”
One excited customer shared: “I’ve just booked for December, I’m buzzing,” The Greggs champagne bar operates from 11.30am until 6pm daily, except Sundays when it closes at 4pm.
On Thursdays, patrons can enjoy an extra hour as the bar stays open until 7pm.
With seating for up to 16 people, reservations are recommended and can be made via the Fenwick website.
