Who is Priya Rani?
Priya Rani hails from a very small village Kurkuri in Phulwari Sharif, Bihar. While growing up Priya faced resistance to her studies. Her grandfather supported and encouraged her to pursue her studies. It was his grandfather who sent her to Patna for better educational opportunities, facing opposition from the villagers to educate girls in the village. Priya completed her education while living in a rented house in Patna.
UPSC Success Story: Priya Rani’s Education Qualification
Priya Rani completed her schooling in her hometown. She then pursued engineering, enrolling in the B.Tech course at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Beshra, in Ranchi. Priya holds a degree in Electrical Engineering.
After engineering, she started working in a private company in Bengaluru with a high salary. During this time, she felt inclined to pursue a career in civil services, so she decided to quit her job.
Priya faced significant displeasure over her decision to leave the job.

Priya secured a position in the Indian Defense Service in her second attempt. But in 2023 UPSC exam she achieved her goal and became an IAS officer with AIR 69.

Priya Rani attributes her success to her disciplined study routine and perseverance. She’s an early riser, waking up at 4 in the morning every day to focus on her studies, especially economics, using study materials like NCERT books and newspapers. She firmly believes that education is the best wealth one can acquire and always encourages youngsters not to lose sight of their goals and relentlessly work towards achieving them.
