Maharashtra election: Congress, Sena (UBT) name candidates for ‘contested’ seats; no total seat-sharing agreement yet

Mumbai: The Congress, Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (SP) have still not been able to come to an agreement for seat sharing in Maharashtra even as the Congress has issued a second list of 23 candidates, while the UBT faction has also released its second list of 15 candidates.

Incidentally in the second list of UBT the party has included the Byculla seat which the Congress has been claiming and is in talks with the UBT. Later in the day UBT released a third list of three candidates where it put a candidate on Versova claimed by Congress, other two seats are Vile Parle and Ghatkopar West.

Meanwhile Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat met Uddhav Thackeray to seek these seats for the Congress. ” I have met Thackeray today.. we are looking into whether we could change some seats, so we had some discussions on this. We also discussed other issues like the three parties coming together for holding meetings, a joint manifesto as well as coordination among the three parties,” said Thorat.

Meanwhile the Nationalist Congress Party Sharadchandra Pawar faction has also released its second list of 22 candidates. Significantly it has put up a candidate in the Paranda seat for which the UBT has also declared a candidate.

Thorat is supposed to meet Sharad Pawar in the evening to resolve seat sharing issues between the two parties.


The Congress CEC is supposed to have an online meeting on Saturday to release the remaining number of candidates in its third and final list.

BJP Drops 2 MLAs in second list of 22 Candidates

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has dropped two MLAs while issuing a second list of 22 candidates on Saturday. The second list has taken its tally to 121 seats with some more seats to come as the BJP plans to contest at least 18 seats in Mumbai.In its second list the BJP has given tickets to Gopichand Padalkar a BJP MLC and a close aide of Devendra Fadnavis. Padalkar will be contesting from Jat.
