Actor Sanjay Dutt’s first marriage to Richa Sharma has long captured public fascination. The couple tied the knot in 1987, but their relationship was often plagued by rumors of trouble.
Richa, a well-known actress of the 80s, reflected on the delicate balance between love and career in a memorable throwback interview. Emphasizing her independence, she expressed that no matter how deeply she loved someone, she would never compromise her career for a relationship.
Richa Sharma told, “No way. I’ll never give up my career for a man, no matter how much I love him, because the fear deep down is that he can always leave you. Simply being a housewife can dull your senses. Therefore, a career is very important for a woman, but not just any career (sic).”
In a past interview, Sanjay Dutt opened up about the special place Richa held in his heart, revealing, “Richa is the only one I care for”. Reports suggest that Sanjay Dutt and Richa Sharma’s love story began in the late 1980s, coinciding with the peak of the actor’s career. Their romance flourished rapidly, culminating in a marriage marked by both deep affection and significant challenges.
The couple celebrated the arrival of their daughter, Trishala Dutt, in 1988, but their joy was overshadowed by tragedy when Richa was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1997. She sadly passed away on December 10, 1996, at her parents’ home in New York. Following this profound loss, Sanjay Dutt married Rhea Pillai in 1998, though they separated in 2005.
Later, Maanyata Dutt, who is 19 years younger than Sanjay, entered his life, and they tied the knot in a heartfelt ceremony in Goa in 2008. In 2010, their family grew with the joyful arrival of twins, Shahraan and Iqra.
