In Bollywood, it’s not uncommon for films to be remade with the same title, but it’s quite rare for those remakes to achieve box office success. Today, we’ll explore two notable films that share the title Jaani Dushman. The original version became a massive hit, captivating audiences and solidifying its status as a classic. However, the subsequent film carrying the same name failed to resonate with viewers, resulting in disappointing box office returns.

Let’s start by revisiting the iconic film Jaani Dushman, which hit theaters on May 25, 1979. Set in New Delhi, this movie remains a beloved classic, captivating audiences even decades later. Once you settle in to watch it, you’ll find it nearly impossible to tear yourself away until the very last scene!

While Jaani Dushman is undeniably a horror film, it’s packed with suspense that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The compelling storyline captivated audiences, making it a standout in the horror genre of the 70s, directed by the talented Rajkumar Kohli. The film featured an impressive ensemble of five superstars—Sunil Dutt, Sanjeev Kumar, Jeetendra, Shatrughan Sinha, and Vinod Mehra—alongside renowned actresses Reena Roy, Rekha, Neetu Singh, and Bindiya Goswami, creating a cinematic experience that was truly unforgettable.

You might be wondering how a film featuring such a stellar cast could have had a modest budget. Surprisingly, Jaani Dushman was produced for just Rs 1.3 crore, a remarkably low figure for a movie showcasing such a talented lineup of stars. Later it went on to make business of Rs 9 crore.

In 2002, Rajkumar Kohli attempted to recreate the magic of Jaani Dushman with a new film bearing the same title. Unfortunately, this venture did not resonate with audiences and struggled at the box office.

While the storyline was different, the film featured a star-studded cast that included Sunny Deol, Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Aftab Shivdasani, Sonu Nigam, and many others, including Rajkumar Kohli’s son, Armaan Kohli. Despite the impressive lineup, the film fell flat, failing to make a significant impact. With a production budget of Rs 18 crores, it barely managed to earn back its costs, making it a disappointing outing for the filmmaker.
