The meal deal has become a favourite for many people across the UK to enjoy during their lunch break with the likes of supermarket brands Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Boots and Morrisons all having their own variations.
However, Tesco has announced a major change to its meal by collaborating with a popular restaurant.
The supermarket giant will team up with Itsu, which is known for Asian food and has the likes of sushi, noodles and dumplings on its menu.
Tesco will give customers the chance to enjoy the Itsu dragon sushi range as part of its £5 meal deal range which will be available from October 21.
Originally, the Tesco meal deal comes in at £4 with Clubcard holders being able to get it for £3.60.
The dragon roll sushi range will see each item come with a mayo sachet, soy sauce and a mini pot complete with crunchy tempura pieces.
Tesco isn’t the first supermarket to collaborate with Itsu. Sainsbury’s has seen stocking items of the chain restaurant in its stores as part of a wider range.
Some of the items include the chicken big bao, the chicken ramen and the chicken and spring onion gyoza.
Meanwhile, Itsu has also expanded to other supermarkets including Waitrose, Morrisons and Asda. These retailers will be able to enjoy five new products from the food brand that are vailable to buy to buy now.
Tesco shoppers will also get to enjoy the five new products, but at a later date, November 4.
New items include two frozen dumplings flavours, chicken soup and vegetable steamed. These will cost £3 for six 28g pieces and can be microwaved or steamed to enjoy.
Another item set to hit the shelves is three vegetarian options. These include glazed miso aubergine, tempura fries and pumpkin crispy fritters. The items cost £3.25 each.
It comes as earlier this year Tesco increased the price of its meal deal. Previously, the cost of a meal deal was £3.40 and has jumped to £3.60.
However, this price is only for customers with a Clubcard and those without will have to pay £4, up from the previous £3.90.
Tesco has defended the price of its meal deal by citing the increase in quality of its products.
A spokesperson for Tesco said: “Clubcard members will pay just £3.60 for a main, snack, and drink, meaning our meal deal remains great value and the ideal way to grab lunch on the go.
“With millions of possible combinations across our stores, our recent improvements to ingredients and more than 20 new mains introduced this summer, the Tesco meal deal has got something for every taste.”
