Man orders ‘best burger’ at McDonald’s but can’t believe what arrives

A customer was left seething after his experience with a McDonald’s Philly Cheese Stack, which some have hailed as the “best ever” burger.

Harry Cox vented his frustration in the McDonald’s Complaints group on Facebook, contrasting an image of the advertised burger with the version he received at a Shrewsbury outlet.

He expressed his dismay with a post stating: “What I wanted in the left, reality on the right. McDonald’s in Shrewsbury UK.”

While some sympathised with Harry’s disappointment, suggesting the burger should resemble its advertisement more closely, others said that customising the order could be the cause of the discrepancy.

One user explained: “That’s what happens when you do a special order and take all the toppings off apart from the standard cheese.”

Another concurred, sharing their own experience: “Yep I order these all the time. The cheese is dripping like crazy. I have also ordered without onions, pickles and the cheese sauce and it looks like this. Can tell they ordered without toppings.”

However, some defended Harry’s expectations, with one commenter saying: “To all the smart a**e commenters ‘what did you expect’…. I’m sure he didn’t expect it to look AS good as the picture. But you’d expect better than that sad looking thing. I had one and was disappointed too!!”

Another member of the group offered Harry a humorous piece of advice: “Stare at the pic on the left while eating it!”.

A woman who claimed to work for McDonald’s mentioned the issues with patty size, saying: “The marketing is actually ridiculous because the patty is so much smaller than the bun, nothing us workers can do about it unfortunately.”

A McDonald’s spokesperson told us: “All products on our UK menu are freshly prepared using high-quality ingredients and staff are trained on assembling our burgers to a high standard. Naturally, for advertising purposes, we want a great photo that showcases every element and each ingredient that goes into our burgers, and this is often done through careful positioning.

“As is common across the industry, we use expert photography, professional lighting, and food stylists to best capture our high-quality ingredients, from the juiciness of our burgers, and fluffiness of our buns, to the crunch of our lettuce.

“Every burger we serve has those same ingredients, and we aim to make everyone just as appealing in presentation. Our advertising is in line with industry guidance to ensure customers are not misled.”
