With 22 days to go until the presidential election, it’s extremely unlikely that Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will meet again on the debate stage. According to Trump, that’s because he “won” the first time around—a dubious claim given that he rambled incoherently for virtually all of the hour and 45 minutes, making insane and baseless remarks about “transgender operations on illegal aliens in prison,” the execution of babies, and, of course, Haitian migrants “eating the dogs” and “eating the cats.”
The more likely reason the two candidates will not face off again is that the ex-president knows Harris beat him last month—as do the people who watched the proceedings—and he doesn’t want to give her another opportunity to do so. Or as second gentleman Doug Emhoff put it in an interview on Monday, Trump had his ass handed to him and probably doesn’t want to relive that.
While speaking to MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, Emhoff was asked, “Why do you think Donald Trump won’t debate her again?” To which he responded: “Well, you saw the first debate, didn’t you…? That’s why. He had his ass kicked.”

That answer is unlikely to go down well on Truth Social, where, if we know the former president, an all-caps ad hominem attack is probably being drafted as we speak.
According to an ABC News/Ipsos poll released on Sunday, a majority of Americans believe Harris and Trump “should agree to have another televised debate.” While Harris has agreed to one, Trump has thus far refused.
