Actress Simi Garewal dated notable figures Ratan Tata and the Maharaja of Jamnagar, and eventually married Ravi Mohan, a member of Delhi’s prestigious Chunnamal family. However, their marriage was…
Not everyone is fortunate enough to find love and settle down with their partner, and this holds even for celebrities. Many date and plan to marry, but something often stops them from taking that final step. One such actress is Simi Garewal, who graced the silver screen for many years. She is known for her charm and iconic white wardrobe, she is called ‘lady in white’ by many.
Simi, a cousin of Pamela Chopra (wife of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra), began her acting career with films like Do Badan (1966), Saathi (1968), Mera Naam Joker (1970), Siddhartha (1972), and Karz (1980). She also appeared in Satyajit Ray’s Bengali film Aranyer Din Ratri. Beyond acting, she is widely known for her celebrity talk show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, where she interviewed celebrities, making them reveal some interesting secrets of their lives.
Not many know Simi Garewal had a romantic relationship with the visionary businessman, chairman emeritus of Tata sons, Ratan Tata. They reportedly shared a deep connection. While they were close to marriage, as with many of Ratan Tata’s other relationships, it didn’t culminate in marriage, possibly due to timing, circumstances, or personal reasons. She often remembers him as a perfectionist who never placed much importance on wealth. In an interview, she spoke highly of him, saying, “Ratan and I have known each other for many years. He’s an ideal person—humorous, humble, and the epitome of a gentleman. Money was never a priority for him. He’s much more at ease when he’s abroad than when he’s in India.”
Simi’s first serious relationship was with Maharaja Shatrusalyasinhji of Jamnagar, a relationship that began when she was just 17. Despite the deep connection they shared, the relationship ended after three years.
After that, Simi married Ravi Mohan in 1970. She described Ravi as a member of the aristocratic family of Delhi — the Chunnamals. She also had a brief long-distance relationship with him before they exchanged vows. Their marriage was not successful and lasted for a decade only.
Simi was 27 when she married Ravi and she knew beforehand that the wedding won’t last long as they were two people with two different sets of ideologies. Simi and Ravi parted ways in 1979. After that, she never married, and over the years, there were several rumours about her personal life.
