My seat at Citi Field as Mets turn playoffs into party

It was 5 p.m. when I arrived at Citi Field, worried I might miss the first pitch.

As I walked towards the stadium, I was stunned at how short the lines were. Everybody was already in their seats.

This was going to be a couple of hours I wouldn’t forget. You could hear the roars from outside Citi Field. I made it to my seats in section 324 behind home plate just before Sean Manaea delivered the first pitch. I briefly sat, then stood like everyone else around me had, every fan in sight waving the orange towels that were given out.

Mets fans were ready for their first Division Series home game in nine years, roaring with every pitch. When Bryce Harper stepped into the box with two outs and nobody on base in the first inning, there were thunderous boos. One fan in our section didn’t like that.
