Actress and politician Hema Malini has captivated audiences for decades with her grace and talent on the big screen and on the big stage as a professional Bharatanatyam dancer. At 75, she continues to inspire through her performances, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of India. Her recent portrayal of Maa Durga during the Nav Durga Mahotsav in Mathura is a testament to her enduring passion for dance and the performing arts.
On the fourth day of Navratri, Hema graced the stage in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, delivering a stunning two-hour dance drama that left attendees spellbound. As she embodied various forms of Maa Durga, her performance was deeply moving and left viewers mesmerised.
The dance drama, based on the Durga Saptashati, illustrated the divine feminine’s strength and grace. Malini’s portrayal of Mata Sati and Parvati was particularly captivating, showcasing her deep connection to the characters she depicted.
Following her performance, Hema expressed her joy, stating to ANI, “I am very happy to perform here today. Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla was also here to witness the program and he praised me for the works I have done here.”
Earlier in the week, the Padma Shri emphasised the importance of incorporating art alongside education in life. “While academic education is crucial, it is equally essential for children to cultivate an interest in art. It facilitates extensive learning, and personality development, and fosters a sense of atma nirbharta – self-reliance,” she said.
