Kelly Monaco has officially wrapped up her 21-year run on General Hospital. The actress, who plays Sam McCall, taped her final episode on September 27, 2024. In August, news broke that the star had been fired from the soap opera and her character would be killed off. The show’s decision to get rid of the actress and her character not only angered fans, but also Monaco.
Although it was initially believed a pay cut was the reason for her exit, those rumors have been debunked. But whatever happened behind-the-scenes, it has the Daytime Emmy nominee upset.
Recently, Monaco created a stir with her reply to a fan comment on a Soap Hub Instagram post. The post was about her former co-star Greg Vaughan sharing memories of when they worked together on the ABC drama.
As expected, the comment section was filled with replies about Monaco’s firing. One user wrote, “What do you got concrete in your head, she wasn’t fired, she didn’t take the pay cut so she had to leave.”
But the actress fired back with her own response:
’No primary role’.. do your homework. When Billy Miller was fired, Sam’s storyline stopped. Stripping Sam of every characteristic she had. Something I worked for decades to build.. Slowly dismantling her, into a character that I did not recognize, let alone the audience. Call it what you will…retaliation at its finest. I will give a proper statement. The truth will set you free.
Since then the comment has been deleted, but it still has social media buzzing.
General Hospital Fans Support Kelly Monaco
Monaco has gained a lot of fan support since her firing. Her loyal supporters have gone to great lengths to help save her job, including signing petitions and putting up a billboard.
Now with the star’s recent comments about General Hospital ruining her character, the support has increased. On a Reddit thread, fans voiced their agreement with Monaco.
Interesting to finally hear about how an actor feels about the declination of their character. They see it as much as we do.
