Third eye: Buzz over road accidents, another statue, the blame game

Buzz over road accidents: LJP MP Veena Devi’s son Chhotu Singh died in a road accident in Bihar on Monday. Bihar’s political circle is abuzz with the tragic coincidence as Veena Devi is not the lone LJP MP to lose her son in a road accident. In 2018, another LJP MP from Munger, whose name was also Veena Devi (wife of Surajbhan Singh), lost her younger son in a road accident near Noida. In 2017, Rama Singh, the then LJP MP from Vaishali, lost his son in a road accident near Allahabad.

Another statue: In the wake of the collapse of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg, the Maharashtra government has issued a tender for constructing a new 60 feet statue there, nearly twice the size of the previous one, officials said. The statue will be built at a cost of about `20 crore. The government has set a six-month timeframe for the completion of the work. A 35 feet statue of Shivaji, unveiled by the PM at Rajkot fort on December 4, collapsed on August 26 amid strong winds.

The blame game: YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday called on people to take part in temple rituals across Andhra Pradesh to ‘atone for the sins by CM N Chandrababu Naidu’. Reddy posted on X: “The sanctity of Tirumala, the significance of Swami’s prasadam, the glory of Lord Venkateswara, the fame of TTD, and the sacredness of the laddu prasadam of Lord Venkateswara were all defiled by Chandrababu Naidu… In order to cleanse this sin committed by Chandrababu Naidu, the YSRCP is calling for participation in Poojas across temples statewide on Saturday, September 28th.”
