Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has responded to criticism following his club’s recent slump.
Masandawana were eliminated from the two-legged MTN8 semifinals this past weekend after going down 2-0 on aggregate to Stellenbosch FC. Mngqithi, who took over as head coach from Rulani Mokwena, has lost back-to-back matches for Sundowns.
Speaking ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership, the former Golden Arrows said he was unaware of what was said about him on social media.
“I don’t even have social media, so I can’t answer on something that I don’t even see,” Manqoba Mngqithi told the media.
“One thing I know is that when you are the leader of a pack, it’s always important to try to move your ears away from the crowd and focus on what you are doing because as it is, I don’t think there is any reason for anyone to believe that I cannot coach Sundowns.
Manqoba Mngqithi not worried about his future
“I believe anyone who feels like maybe might be malicious, maybe might be having issues, or maybe might be sent by others to say things that suit those particular individuals,” Mngqithi added as per iDiski Times.
“But for someone to think I’m incapable of coaching Sundowns, it will be very strange for me,” he concluded.
Manqoba Mngqithi joined Downs in 2014 as Pitso Mosimane’s assistant. Under Jingles, the KZN-born coach won the CAF Champions League and several league titles.
In 2020, he alongside Steve Komphela and Mokwena were elevated to co-coaches after Mosimane’s departure. The club decided to place Manqoba Mngqithi as senior coach, while Rulani was given the full title of head coach.
Will Manqoba survive this season?
