Loganair warned customers flying from Inverness Airport that “essential maintenance” delays could persist for several days.

But the airline assured passengers that flights will continue to operate as normal.

Inverness Airport is advising flyers to allow for plenty of time as “technical issues” are currently causing disruption.

A statement from Inverness Airport posted to Twitter/X said: “Passenger notice for Inverness Airport. Due to a technical issue at Inverness airport we are currently experiencing longer delays in processing passengers through security. Passengers are advised to arrive early and go through to the departure lounge.”

Meanwhile, Loganair posted on Twitter/X: “We are aware of essential maintenance at security search at Inverness Airport over the next few days. We recommend you arrive at the airport in plenty of time prior to your flight to ensure your airport journey is smooth.”

The nature of the “technical issue” is not currently known.

This comes shortly after it was revealed that thousands of passengers at Edinburgh Airport had their holidays disrupted due to emergency repairs on its runway last year.

Figures disclosed by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) showed that 16 unplanned closures were caused by surface faults at the airport.

It claimed that the disruption lasted a total of nearly nine hours.

Other incidents at the airport on top of the runway repairs showed that a total of 36 passenger flights and two cargo services were diverted.

It also revealed that at least 60 flights were delayed.

The data was obtained via a Freedom of Information request to The Scotsman.

The airport admitted work to “fully replace” the runway would not start until the end of next year but admitted it was “approaching the end of its life.”

The Scottish Conservatives’ Graham Simpson, transport spokesperson, said: “Any delays cause disruption.

“Airport bosses will be concerned by these figures and should do everything they can to bring forward improvements to the runway.”
