Al Jasra restaurant in Kembangan suspended for two weeks due to infestation

SINGAPORE: The licence of Al Jasra restaurant in Kembangan has been suspended for two weeks as a result of food safety lapses, said the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) on Tuesday (Aug 20).

The restaurant at 459 Changi Road will not be allowed to operate from Aug 20 to Sep 2.

Al Jasra was also fined S$800 (US$612) after accumulating 12 demerit points in a year. It was given six demerit points each for the following offences:

  • Failure to keep licensed premises free of infestation (twice)

Al Jasra is known for its round-the-clock prata buffet.

Under the SFA’s point system, a licensee who accumulates 12 or more demerit points during a 12-month period may have their licence suspended for a period of either two or four weeks, or cancelled, said SFA.

All food handlers and hygiene officers working in the suspended premises are also required to reattend and pass food safety courses before they can resume their work.

“SFA takes a serious view of these offences, and would like to remind food business operators to observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times,” said the agency.

“This includes engaging only registered food handlers, and ensuring upkeep and maintenance of licensed premises.

Members of the public who come across any potentially errant food operation are advised to report the incident to SFA via its online feedback form

“SFA will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to be in violation of the Environmental Public Health Act,” it added.
