CEC Rajiv Kumar was at his poetic best during the press conference announcing the elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. In keeping with his ‘shaayari’ on ‘zamooriyat’ in his Jammu presser last week, the CEC composed another one, this time with full pun intended, referring to how J&K voters will defeat the ‘napak’ intents at play.

Televised interviews with politicians are supposed to start on a lighter note, so when a journalist anchor asked Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis jokingly if there was a ‘ladka journalist scheme’ like the ‘ladki behna scheme’, in which women will be paid `1500 per month by the state. Fadnavis stated that the opposition parties already have a ‘ladka patrakar system’. Fadnavis’ response is an old BJP complaint: the state’s journalists are getting ‘dictations’ from the opposition parties.
Showing Off His Fitness Level
Every Independence Day, Bihar’s chief minister visits a SC locality, during which the eldest member of the community hoists the flag. This year, during his remarks at the function, Kumar enquired about the age of the individual who raised the flag. The individual stated that he is 69 years old. Nitish informed him and the audience that the person at 69 appears older than him at 74. He urged others to take good care of their health so that they may look as fit as him even in old age.
