Kamala Harris’s Campaign Mocks How Much Donald Trump and Elon Musk Suck at the Internet

Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign has already proven itself adept at baiting Donald Trump and his supporters using the playground-tested technique of calling Republicans “weird.” The campaign, which has proven itself to be Extremely Online through TikToks evoking Trump’s lack of “aura” and hearty embrace of the “brat” label, is now provoking its opponent by pointing out how not online Trump is.

Trump is so out of touch, he can’t work the internet, the Harris campaign posits, pointing to Monday evening’s livestreamed interview between Trump and Elon Musk, which was delayed by some 45 minutes due to technical issues.

“Trump’s entire campaign is in service of people like Elon Musk and himself—self-obsessed rich guys who will sell out the middle class and who cannot run a livestream in the year 2024,” the Harris campaign shared on X (formerly Twitter) after the lengthy conversation between the two. The campaign’s rapid response team addressed the statement to “those unlucky enough to listen in tonight during whatever that was on X.com.”

There’s a certain poetry in the fact that this jab was delivered on Musk’s own pet platform X, after Trump booster Musk also couldn’t figure out how to use the damn thing.

True to form, the campaign shitposted through it all evening, kicking off the festivities with a reminder that Musk himself tweeted in 2022 that Trump was “too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America.”

Another subtle but no less scorching burn: The campaign account doesn’t follow Musk. Of course.

The Harris campaign also released select soundbites throughout the interview, illustrated with a photo of Trump looking particularly papery under his red MAGA cap and a be-suited Musk. They pointed out Trump “slurring” while touting the upside of climate change as creating more oceanfront property, and highlighted a clip of Trump praising Musk for laying off striking workers. On Tuesday, the account reshared headlines doubling down on the slurring characterization and assessment of the nearly two-hour stream as an “unmitigated disaster.” Previously the Harris campaign shared a TikTok imagining Trump’s search history, riddled with typos and queries about whether he was, in fact, weird. Who knew a series of tubes could cause such turmoil?

Of course, it probably doesn’t help that Trump’s own running mate, JD Vance, is out here saying that Trump can’t answer policy questions that he can’t hear.

At this point, Harris’s campaign has proven itself so adept at both compiling mixtapes and creating memes, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the campaign released a clip of VP candidate/Universal Dad Tim Walz gamely bopping around to the “I know I Mountain Dew it for ya” part of Sabrina Carpenter‘s “Espresso,” Diet Dew firmly in hand.
