Three-ingredient air fryer apple pie wows McDonald’s fans

McDonald’s dessert aficionados are raving about a simple three-ingredient recipe that mimics the fast-food giant’s beloved apple pie.

Cookbook author Emily Scott has sent food enthusiasts into a frenzy with her air fryer creation.

The ‘What I Ate for Breakfast’ author has cracked the code to the perfect air fryer apple pie, cleverly using a jar of apple sauce as the filling.

Touted as the ‘easiest’ apple pie one could whip up, she’s got McDonald’s devotees on edge with anticipation, reports the Daily Record.

Emily penned: “The easiest apple pies you’ll ever make! The jar of apple sauce that you have in the fridge to serve with roast pork can be used in sweet recipes too.”

“Try it in these individual apple pies, which are so quick to prepare and absolutely delicious. Perfect for Autumn.”

McDonald’s enthusiasts were astounded by the simplicity of the recipe.

Kate exclaimed: “So making these! ” @the_goodfood_gal posted: “I just bought a jar of apple sauce and was wondering what to do with it!”

Searchingforspice remarked, “They look delicious! I definitely need to try more baking recipes in my air fryer,” and @stokes_sauces chimed in, “Love the look of these beauties!”

@fordysfeasts quipped: “Maccy d’s eat your heart out.”

Should you find yourself with an unused jar of apple sauce in your pantry, here’s how you can recreate McDonald’s iconic pies with minimal fuss.

Unroll a sheet of puff pastry and cut into six evenly sized strips.

Then spread half a tablespoon of apple sauce onto the top half of each strip, making sure you leave a border around the edges.

You can add a dusting of ground cinnamon (around half a teaspoon) on top of the apple sauce if you want.

Then brush the border of the pastry with either egg wash or milk.

Fold over the remaining half so the filling is completely covered.

Press firmly around the edges to ensure the filling doesn’t leak out.

Use a fork to crimp the edges (or any utensil you like), before cutting a few slits in the top of each pie.

This will allow the steam to escape during cooking.

Place the pies in the air fryer basket or on a lined baking tray, brushing each of them with egg wash or milk.

Air fry the pies at 170℃ for 14 to 16 minutes.

Emily recommends using the bake setting on an air fryer for this recipe, otherwise the regular air fryer setting is fine.

Alternatively, bake the pies in the oven on a lined baking tray at 18℃ fan/200℃ for 18 to 20 minute, or until the pastry is golden and has puffed up.

Dust the apple pies with icing sugar. These can be eaten either warm or cold.
