When Salman Khan Was NOT ‘Keen’ to Work With Govinda in David Dhawan’s Partner

David Dhawan revealed that Salman Khan wasn’t originally ‘keen’ to work with Govinda in Partner and that Anil Kapoor was a little apprehensive about the close relationship between David and Govinda.

Partner, a 2007 film helmed by David Dhawan, was Salman Khan and Govinda’s first and, to date, only joint venture in a two-hero role. Fans have been clamouring for a sequel since the massive box office success of the cult comedy co-starring Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif. However, in a recent interview, director David Dhawan disclosed that Salman Khan had originally turned down the opportunity to collaborate with Govinda on the blockbuster movie.

Why Salman Khan Was NOT Keen to Work With Govinda

As it occurred, David was questioned about his relationship with Govinda and whether or not he used to be late to his sets during Arbaaz Khan’s YouTube series The Invincibles, season two. The filmmaker also revealed how Partner happened for Govinda and Salman Khan.

After finalising the Hero No. 1 actor for the film, producer Sohail Khan came to David and asked if they could take both Salman and Govinda. He said, ‘Damn good.’ He went to Salman and he wasn’t very keen. I told him, ‘Come on, let’s do it, it’ll be a big thing,’ and he came, he shot the whole film wonderfully.” David continued, recalling another event from the film’s production, “Salman told me one day, when we were shooting in Bangkok, he said ‘David yaar, isse ladna fayda nahi hai.”

About Govinda, Salman Khan’s Film ‘Partner’

The 2005 Hollywood picture Hitch, which starred Will Smith, Eva Mendes, Kevin James, and Amber Valletta in the key parts, was unofficially remade as Partner. David Dhawan refuted rumours that his movie was a remake when it was being promoted. He mentioned that Hitch had given him an idea, which he then utilized to portray the narrative in an Indian setting while including his interpretation of the theme.

The story of the Partner centres on Prem (played by Salman Khan), a love guru who falls in love with a widowed mother named Naina (played by Lara Dutta) while also assisting his client Bhasker (played by Govinda) in courting his ladylove Priya (played by Katrina Kaif).

Despite being a remake and Salman’s initial reluctance to collaborate with Govina, Partner became a huge hit when it was released, and viewers adored the comedic chemistry between Salman and Govinda. According to the entertainment monitoring website Box Office India, the movie, which cost barely Rs 28 crore to make, ended up making Rs 100.91 crore globally.

When Anil Kapoor Got Insecure of Govinda

He also disclosed that Anil Kapoor would become uncomfortable about Govinda when Deewana Mastana was being filmed in 1997. “Anil Kapoor was a very laborious actor. Govinda was like butter.” And then added, “Anil used to be a little upset. He would say ‘Both of you have worked so much together.’ I went on a vacation, you shot so much with Govinda behind my back, ” David said.

For the unversed, Govinda and David Dhawan have collaborated on 17 movies. Their last collaboration was a 2009 flop Do Knot Disturb. The film also starred Lara Dutta, Riteish Deshmukh and Sushmita Sen.
