R59 million Powerball winner says he ‘fasted and prayed’

The winner of the R59 million Powerball jackpot from the draw on 12 July has come forward to claim their substantial prize.

R59 MILLION WINNER: ‘I HAVE ALWAYS HAD FAITH’

The KwaZulu-Natal resident who recently won R59 million in the Powerball draw chooses to remain anonymous and opted for a Quick Pick selection using the Standard Bank banking app.

The elated winner tells Ithuba that he plays twice a week and has always had faith that he will win one day.

“This big win comes after I have fasted and prayed for a while. I am truly grateful”, adds the winner.

The winner has informed their parents about the life-changing news. They plan to allocate a portion of their winnings towards property acquisition and substantial investments for long-term financial security. The winner adds that they will continue working.

Ithuba also reveals that the winner of the R12 million Powerball Plus jackpot on 2 July, has also claimed his windfall. He bought his ticket at a Pick ‘n Pay with a R30 ticket wager and a Quick Pick selection.

“I checked my ticket a Pick ‘n Pay, I was shocked to find out I held the winning ticket. My first reaction was that it must be an error. I nervously tucked the slip into my pocket and made my way to the car. Once inside, I double-checked the numbers, and the reality started to sink in.”

He drove home to sit down and verify his win in peace. Upon arriving home, he meticulously checked the ticket once more and confirmed that he’d indeed won.

“I was nervous about something happening to my ticket, like a fire, so much so that as a precautionary measure. I went around the house switching off all the electric points and the main switch, ensuring everything was safe in case of any unforeseen events.”, the winner shared.

The ecstatic couple, who are from Johannesburg both received trauma and financial counselling offered by Ithuba to winners of R50,000 and above.
