A travel guru has sounded the alarm for holidaymakers, cautioning against stowing certain items in checked baggage as the summer getaway season heats up.
Flyers with Jet2, Ryanair, easyJet, and TUI are being alerted about the dangers of packing a slew of common but risky items.
The TikTok influencer @thepointsguy has dropped a bombshell on what you should “never put in your checked bag, regardless of how short your flight is”, including suncream and plug adaptors.
The advice comes as a stark reminder to keep prescription medications close at hand when travelling. “You may be able to get a doctor to call in your prescription, but that becomes trickier if it’s a weekend or a holiday or if your medication doesn’t allow for refills before the previous prescription runs out,” he detailed.
Moreover, he urged travellers not to consign electronics to their checked luggage. He cautioned that while most airport staff are honest, there’s always a “risk” of theft, reports Birmingham Live.
He extended the same caution to “jewellery and cash” as well as any “items with significant personal value”, advising flyers to keep such valuables on their person to avoid “financial or emotional loss”.
“Plug adapters and high-quality suncream” are items you might want to keep with you and not stashed away in your suitcase, he said.
Responding to his advisory, which has gone viral receiving accolades, one TikTok user commented: “Everything important goes into my carry-on. Meds, contacts, electronics in particular.”
“Daily necessities” should find a place in your carry-on, he advised, suggesting that a spare set of clothes, toiletries, and vision essentials like glasses or contacts are must-haves in your hand luggage.
Another chimed in: “I only have clothing and shoes in checked bags. Everything else is in my carry-on.”
His timely warning arrives just as a wave of Brits embark on their much-anticipated summer vacations.
