‘Dictatorship has crossed all limits’: Sunita Kejriwal as Delhi HC halts Delhi CM’s release | India News

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal‘s wife Sunita Kejriwal on Friday said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) challenged her husband’s bail order even before it was uploaded on the trial court’s website.
Sunita Kejriwal made these remarks while speaking in south Delhi’s Bhogal, where Delhi water minister Atishi began an indefinite hunger strike to demand more water from Haryana.Earlier today, the Delhi high court put on hold the trial court order granting bail to the chief minister until it hears the ED’s plea challenging the relief granted to him in the money laundering case linked to the alleged excise scam. The ED mentioned its plea before a bench of Justices Sudhir Kumar Jain and Ravinder Dudeja.
Sunita Kejriwal expressed her concern over the state of democracy in the
country, stating, “Dictatorship has crossed all limits in the country. The high court order is yet to come. We hope that the court will do justice.”
The ED has challenged the Rouse Avenue court’s order dated June 20, 2024, which granted bail to Kejriwal. The trial court stated in the bail order that the ED had failed to provide any direct evidence against Kejriwal regarding the proceeds of crime.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy 2021-22. He was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on May 10 in view of the Lok Sabha polls and was told to surrender on June 2. The Delhi high court had earlier dismissed his plea for release from jail and rejected his argument of political vendetta amid the Lok Sabha elections.
