Luckily for them, new numbers have revealed the cheapest spots to head to in Spain this year for a great summer getaway.

Travel experts from TravelSupermarket analysed package deals to Spanish holiday resorts, to get the best average prices.

From their research, they discovered that Blanes in the Costa Brava is the most affordable for travellers this year, with the average price of seven-night stays less than £450.

They said: “Known as the gateway to the Costa Brava, Blanes is a great introduction to the beautiful beaches and historic towns that this costa is well known for.

“It’s a family-favourite for a laidback seaside stay, often quieter than its resort neighbours, Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar.

“It’s great-value, too. Taking top spot as the cheapest Spanish resort, seven-night summer holidays in Blanes average just £445pp.”

Once you’re there, the cost of living is also much cheaper than the UK, with the price of a beer around €2 (£1.70).

Meanwhile, a three-course meal for two can be booked at a mid range restaurant from around €32 (£27.25).

Blanes isn’t only affordable, it’s also well worth a visit, with its botanical gardens and beaches among the top reasons to go, along with its pleasant weather, with temperatures reaching 30C in the summer months.

The Jardi Botanic Marimurta won a TripAdvisor traveller’s choice award last year.

Spain’s best coastal town revealed – it has five-star beaches

The garden is described as “one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean” and is found at the top of the cliffs overlooking the sea.

Marimurta.cat said: “You can enjoy one of the most spectacular panoramic views over the coastline and get to know more than four thousand plant species, most of them exotic ones, as well as several specimens that are extraordinary because of their age or size.”

The garden isn’t the only place people can enjoy the sea, with beaches like Sant Francesc and Playa S’Abanell among the most popular in the Costa Brava.

Sant Francesc offers visitors “beautiful coloured water and excellent snorkelling” according to one tourist on TripAdvisor.

Another added: “Crystal clear waters, sandy beach, restaurant and rocks for snorkelling. Well what more do you want?”

The bay remains relatively uncrowded on most days, according to Visit Blanes, while Restaurant Cala Bona serves food and drink to beach-goers right on the soft white sand.

Elsewhere, tourists also frequently pay a visit to the Castle of Sant Joan, which was built between the 11th and 13th centuries.

The castle is described as “one of the most emblematic buildings and undoubtedly one of the most characteristic landscape elements of Blanes”.

Turismo Blanes said: “The view of Blanes and its coastline profile from the castle, make it a must for all those who want to know the beauty of the Costa Brava and the profile of the Blanes coast.

“From here, you can also see the Serra de las Gavarres, the coastal mountain range, the Montseny, and even on a clear day, the Montjuïc mountain.”

Getting to Blanes from the UK is fairly simple, with a drive from Girona Airport taking just half an hour.
