Diljit Dosanjh won the hearts of his fans when essayed the role of popular late Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila in Imtiaz Ali’s film of the same name. However, Dosanjh’s decision not to wear a turban in the film sparked a massive debate. Now, in the same matter, Punjabi Ammy Virk came in support of Diljit and defended the Crew actor by saying “The film was like that where he had to show that look.”
During an interview with India Today, Virk said, “The film was based on Chamkila and what we know is that he (Chamkila) did cut his hair, but at the same time, he also wore a turban sometimes. Now, if Imtiaz sir is making a biopic on Chamkila, the character and the film demand that look. As Imtiaz sir said, Diljit didn’t cut his hair, it was a wig.”
Talking more about the matter, Ammy said that Diljit chose not to trim hair and wear the turban for the film or money but did it out of pride. “Diljit didn’t cut his hair for the film or the money, he would not do that. Moreover, the most important thing is to see where Diljit has actually taken that ‘paradise’ (turban). When he was performing at Coachella, he was wearing the parade. He is making us so proud, the stadiums are full because of Diljit. We should all see that. You can’t stop the trolls, they will take old stories and keep talking about it,” he said.
This is not the first time when someone has talked about the topic. The director of Amar Singh Chamkila, Imtiaz Ali, also opened up on the matter and said, I would not want to share his personal details, but yes, Diljit has worn a wig. That wig is like his turban only. He has not sacrificed a single hair for this film. Because he played a character and knew how Chamkila looked, so he managed to look the part with a wig. He donned the look very sincerely and with very good intentions.”
Amar Singh Chamkila turned out to be a massive hit among the audience. Fans not only enjoyed Diljit Dosanjh’s acting but also praised Parineeti Chopra, who plays the role of Amarjot (Amar Singh Chamkila’s wife).”
