Vegetable-infused coffee leaves online users baffled as video shows ‘horrific’ concoction

Coffee trends come and go with varied success, including the ultra viral Dalgona coffee that became a staple of the coronavirus lockdown.

Now, a new vegetable-infused coffee has taken social media by storm, dividing opinions and leaving online users rather baffled.

The drink recipe, thought to originate from China, entails topping a coffee with a large serving of spring onions, giving it extra flavour and crunch.

As expected, the beverage got mixed reviews, with many turning to TikTok to experiment with it firsthand.

Among those intrigued by the concept are brewers based in the US and Australia, such as Golden Brown Coffee, who have uploaded a tutorial for other curious coffee lovers to try.

A creator from the company, @goldenbrown.coffee, elaborated: “This is a viral drink that came straight out of China.

“So, of course, yours truly has to taste it. Start by chipping just the green parts of fresh spring onion.

“Then just make an iced latte how you would with ice, milk and of course, some espresso. Then we have to heavily garnish our drink with spring onion.”

After mixing it well, the creator showcased a latte that looked quite normal, except for the green bits floating around in it.

After trying it, the creator’s regret was apparent as he immediately gagged, saying: “You can’t even fake any redeeming qualities. That is horrific. Coffee down!”

The 26-second video was quickly flooded with comments, with one person suggesting: “Have you tried it with diced tomatoes and mashed avocados?

“Top it off with a bit of tajin seasoning and chaat masala. Amazing!!”

Another person pointed out: “Coffee becomes weirder and weirder these days.”
