Legally Blonde is making a comeback. More than two decades after the world was first introduced to the cult classic, fans will get to see the beloved Elle Woods on their screens again. However, Woods won’t be the sharp-mouthed sorority-leader-turned-Harvard-law-graduate we adore. This time, she will be much younger and in high school.
Legally Blonde Prequel Green-lit At Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video has ordered a Legally Blonde prequel to a series titled Elle. During Prime Video’s inaugural upfront presentation on Tuesday, the studio’s executives unveiled the exciting project. None other than Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine, will produce the new series. Recall that Witherspoon brought Wood’s beauty and brain character to life in the 2001 movie and its 2003 sequel.
Per Deadline, Elle will tell the story of the titular character, Woods, in high school “as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first film.” Witherspoon, who donned Wood’s signature all-pink skirt-suit look at the presentation, shed more light on what fans should expect.
“Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do.”

Details about the new series remain mostly vague, with no cast members announced yet. Insecure‘s Laura Kittrell is the creator, and Witherspoon is the showrunner and executive producer.
Fans React To ‘Legally Blonde’ Prequel News
Following the announcement, fans took to social media to share their thoughts. For the most part, viewers have mixed feelings about the project, especially with Legally Blonde 3 still in the works since 2018. One fan lamented, “The Legally Blonde musical is better than the movie in every way, and yet RW keeps trying to make sequels and prequels.”
An unimpressed fan asked, “Of all the movies that could have a prequel why on earth would you pick legally blonde?” This third fan wrote, “Ok, but the fun of Legally Blonde is a smart, competent woman who people write off as a “vapid bimbo” showing them up once she believes in herself. This is before the character development…nobody wants this.”
A fourth comment read, “This will fail because it can’t be called legally blonde because she doesn’t become legally anything until college.”
Regardless, fans will just have to wait to see if Elle Woods can show them how valuable she can be as a high schooler.
