Why Vijay Deverakonda’s Family Star Is Facing Back Lash?
Despite a lukewarm theatrical run, “Family Star” hit streaming platforms on April 26th. But the film’s journey wasn’t smooth sailing. Social media erupted with criticism after viewers took offense to a specific scene featuring the lead character and the villain.
Social media erupted with criticism over a scene in the movie where the supposedly “heroic” character makes threatening remarks about sexual assault. Viewers condemned both the writer, Parasuram, for including the dialogue, and the actor, Vijay Deverakonda, for delivering it. Some even pointed out the similarity to another of Deverakonda’s characters, Arjun Reddy, who was known for his problematic behaviour.
Netizens Respond To Vijay Deverakonda’s Family Star
An X/Twitter raised his concern on social media that read, “Just watched Family Star. Devarakonda’s char is supposed to be the good guy. But he’s giving rape threats to the women in the Villain’s household. Now Arjun Reddy doing this would mean a jerk doing problematic stuff. But in Family star the supposedly good guy ends up doing this (sic).” While there were many criticisms that were being pointed out in the film, fans shared their opinion on Devrakonda’s latest movie.

In #FamilyStar, the ‘Hero’ bashes up the goons of a muscleman who preyed upon the women of his family..
And then, proceeds to give a rape threat to the women of goon’s family.

Despite the intense criticism of the scene, Vijay Deverakonda and the filmmakers behind “Liger” have received pockets of support online. These defenders argue the clip is misleading and lacks crucial context from the film. They claim the controversial scene is part of a larger narrative that establishes Govardhan’s respect for women. They point to other scenes that demonstrate this respect.

A tense confrontation unfolds inside Govardhan’s house. A hulking goon stands menacingly, pressuring Govardhan’s sister-in-law over a debt owed by her husband. The goon hesitates, sensing the danger in Govardhan’s quiet fury. He throws a final glare at the women before leaving, the threat hanging heavy in the air.
