There’s nothing nicer than a fresh homemade dinner, but sometimes they can become overly complicated and take lots of time.
Whilst this may be something people enjoy on the weekends, weekday dinners are often more simple and quick.
BBC Good Food recently shared their five-ingredient sausage pasta recipe which is ready in under 20 minutes.
The notes said: “Add a few cupboard extras to a ready-made tomato sauce for a wonderfully quick and substantial pasta dish.”
The recipe serves four people so can easily be made for two with leftovers for lunch the following day.
Ingredients:
One red pepper, seeds removed, finely chopped
400g good-quality sausages, skins removed
350g tomato and chilli pasta sauce
350g penne pasta
Freshly grated parmesan, to serve
Method:
Start by heating some oil in a large frying pan and add the pepper, cooking over medium heat.
Once the pepper is soft, add the sauces to the pan, breaking them up with a wooden spoon.
Once the meat is browned, add the tomato sauce and let it cook with the sausages for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, cook the pasta in a pan of boiling salted water according to the packet instructions.
Any shape of pasta will work for this dish but the recipe recommends using penne pasta.
Drain the pasta once cooked to preference and stir in the tomato and chilli pasta sauce.
Spoon into four bowls and garnish with some grated parmesan and chopped basil if you have any available.
Leftovers will stay fresh in airtight containers in the fridge for a few days or it could be frozen for a few months.
