Singer-turned-actor Diljit Dosanjh recently opened up about his relationship with his parents. During an interview, the 40-year-old singer conversed with YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia and revealed that when he was just 11 years old, his parents sent him away to a relative’s place in Ludhiana. The singer said that his parents did not even discuss this step with him. He added that it was done to take care of his basic needs.
In the discussion with Ranveer, Diljit said, “I was eleven years old when I left my home and started living with my mama ji (maternal uncle). I came to the city leaving my village behind. I shifted to Ludhiana. He said ‘Send him to the city with me’ and my parents said ‘Yes, take him.’ My parents did not even ask me.”
Dosanjh acknowledged that despite the strain on his relationship with his parents due to the decision to send him away from home, he holds them in high regard. “I used to stay alone in a small room. I used to just go to school and come back, there wasn’t any TV. I had a lot of time. Also, we didn’t have mobile phones back then, even if I had to call home or receive a call from my parents, it cost us money. So I started becoming distant from my family,” the singer added.

During a conversation with news agency PTI, Diljit opened up about the film and said, “I had to unlearn things and start from zero. It’s a plus point in the life of an artist to do this. It’s tough to start from zero because you often get lost in your personality, and you feel this is who you are (but) the best thing about an actor’s job is that you get the opportunity to start from zero, and I look at this as an opportunity.”
