Protester Gets Thrown Down After Badgering Joe Manchin

A climate protester bragged on X (formerly Twitter) about calling Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) a “sick fuck” to his face before getting thrown down by security.

The protester from a group called Climate Defiance posted, “We just called Joe Manchin a sick fuck. We humiliated him in front of a herd of Harvard elites. He squared up. We held firm. Barbaric murderer, hideous fiend, he torches humanity and laughs.”

In the crudely edited video, a young man approaches Manchin, who’s sitting at a table with a Harvard Kennedy School banner behind him, and shouts, “Joe Manchin! You sold our futures and you’ve gotten rich doing it. You sick fuck!”

At that, Manchin rose to his feet to square off with the heckler before security stepped in, saying, “I got it,” before shoving the man to the ground.

Manchin then addressed what appeared to be additional protesters, saying, “Y’all want to sit down somewhere so we can talk?”

One of the men replied, “I’m not going to sit down! You’ve received more funding from fossil fuels than any other senator.

A woman added, “You’ve made millions. You’ve made millions out of your position. You drive a Maserati.”

Another man said, “The Mountain Valley Pipeline goes right through West Virginia, which are your constituents.”

And another asked, “Do you think people support this pipeline? The people don’t support it.”

Manchin answered, “The pipeline they should support because it has— ”

The group then chanted, “Support our futures, not your profits!”

Manchin was then heard saying, “We’ll get back on track here, guys,” as the protesters linked arms and exited down a hallway.

Manchin posted information about the pipeline on his Senate web page. He wrote:

This transformational project will create more than 2,500 jobs, generate $50 million in tax revenue and more than $175 million in royalties for West Virginia landowners, and play a significant role in strengthening our domestic energy production which will lower costs for consumers in West Virginia and across the country.

The senator announced recently that he would not be running on a third-party ticket for president in 2024 as many had speculated. He is not seeking reelection to the Senate this year.
