McDonald’s fans discover the real process behind the diced onions

McDonald’s burgers vary based on fillings, size and shape but one thing most of them have in common is the addition of perfectly diced onions.

While few people think too much about where they come from, a TikTok content creator who claimed to be a former McDonald’s employee has unveiled the truth behind the trademark onions.

In a viral video posted on his TikTok profile, @tiktokhuss detailed the process of preparing and storing onions for the fast food chain.

Just last year, people were shocked by the revelation that the restaurant would start adding white onions to burger patties while they’re still on the grill, which subsequently enhances the flavour.

But now the latest shocker for fans is that the onions are actually dehydrated and need to be rehydrated with water and, or ice.

In his video, @tiktokhuss claimed: “Get two packets of dehydrated onions put ’em in a container, add water—I don’t add ice, just water.

“Chuck it into the fridge. Let it cool down, let the dehydrated onions rehydrate with water.”

The revelation attracted some 300 comments from McDonald’s fans who had mixed reactions to the newfound information.

One person commented: “I’m never having Maccas [McDonald’s] again”. Another wrote: “Ok never again.”

Others were not so put off by the onions with many claiming they would still eat at the fast food chain.

A TikTok user commented: “I love Maccas [McDonald’s] onions… I don’t care how they are made.”

A second former employee confirmed the revelation, writing: “They’ve been making the onions like this for at least 40 years. I used to work at McDonalds.”

Luckily for those who are a fan of the onions, the fast-food chain makes it easy for customers to add extra to their order.

It’s also possible to remove the diced, rehydrated onions from burgers and sandwiches for those who aren’t a fan.
