Karan Johar reveals why he needed Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol for ‘My Name Is Khan’ as the film turns 14 |

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol‘s ‘My Name Is Khan‘ is one of the most remembered movies of this on-screen pair. They left fans surprised as they starred together in set-up like this after iconic romantic movies like ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. But as the film turns 14, director Karan Johar says that he wouldn’t have made the film without SRK and Kajol.
During a conversation with Times Now, Karan said that he didn’t make any compromise in MNIK, which is considered one of SRK’s career best performances. Karan admitted that he was known for grandeur and glamour and he was labelled frivolous. Earlier he used to feel guilty about it as in a room full of serious film-makers, he felt that they didn’t think much of him. However, he now feels that he shouldn’t have felt that way and should’ve been happy in his own space.
Karan spoke about SRK’s character and said that it had to be portrayed sensitively. The film never made ‘autism’ an issue. He also added that if we all followed SRK’s character Rizwan’s guidelines prescribed by his mother, we would possibly have a better world. Karan emphasised on the fact that he wouldn’t have made the film without Shah Rukh or Kajol. Only a mother could’ve played that role. He added that one loved SRK’s character more because we saw him through the eyes of Kajol’s character.
The fimm-maker revealed that MNIK didn’t just come from a place of conviction but also from a place of defiance.
On the film’s 14th anniversary, Kajol also shared a picture and wrote, “Reflecting on the journey of Rizwan and Mandira, and the countless lives they’ve touched..Celebrating the enduring power of love and unity..❤️ #14yearsofmynameiskhan”
