‘Give that man a statue’: Ronwen Williams makes history

Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams was the hero as South Africa edged out Cape Verde 2-1 in a tense penalty shootout to reach the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals on Saturday night.

The 32-year-old saved four spot-kicks to help his side book a semi-final date with Nigeria.

After the shootout, many South Africans took to social media to praise Williams’s performance.

The Sundowns keeper kept Bafana in the match and during injury-time, he made a world-class save to deny Cape Verde a winner.

Ronwen Williams is the first goalkeeper in AFCON history to save four penalties in a single penalty shootout.
