Matome Chiloane, Gauteng Education MEC, has expressed his sadness over the death of a grade six learner as a result of scholar transport.
The learner from Modiselle Primary School in Ga-Rankuwa was killed on Thursday on his way home from school.

According to the department, the learner allegedly fell out of the vehicle before the scholar transport and tragically drove over him.
Chiloane has expressed his sadness over the learners death and urges drivers to be extra vigilant.
“Scholar transport is an initiative that forms part of our critical interventions to alleviate pressure from parents. As such, we expect our learners to be safely transported from home to school and back”, says the MEC.
“We call upon drivers to be extra vigilant of learner’s safety”, Chiloane adds.
The provincial departments Psycho-Support Team visited the accident scene and the learner’s family.
Meanwhile, police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
