The UK’s 50 best pubs – is your local on the list? | Travel News | Travel

Thinking of going down the pub tonight? Hold your horses because the UK’s best 50 gastropubs have just been announced and there’s some incredible locals on the list. 

The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs are chosen for their incredible food, atmosphere and staff by a team of food experts, industry figures and journalists. 

The Unruly Pig in Suffolk soared to the top of the hotlist this year, fighting off stiff competition from two southwest pubs, The Cornish Arms and The Mariners. 

Ed Bedington, editor of the Morning Advertiser, the pub industry’s main publication and the founders of the awards, said: “Pubs are a beloved institution and part of the UK’s culture, and this list of the most astounding and impressive food pubs in the country is wonderful to see. Pubs serve so many roles to so many people, and for operators like the Unruly Pig and all of our list, to be able to offer amazing food and wonderful experiences, up there with some of the best in fine dining, is brilliant to see.”

The Bulls Head in Derbyshire was named as ‘One to Watch’ while Daniel Smith at the Forwdich Arms and Bridge Arms in Kent was named ‘Chef of the Year’. 

The Loch & Tyne in Berkshire was this year’s ‘Sustainable Pub of the Year’ while Yorkshire chef, Andrew Pern, won a special award for his incredible work to rebuild the Star after it burned down in 2021. 

The Bridge Arms at Canterbury was this year’s highest performing newcomer to the list, making it a great spot to try out on a staycation in 2024.
