That’s according to new data produced by consumer champions Which?

In numbers they published on Mail Online, they explained which weeks were the cheapest to go on holiday in, as well as the most affordable package holiday destinations.

Their data showed that it is £123 cheaper per person to book a package break during the last week of the summer holidays, compared to the first week.

It is also £129 cheaper to travel in the last week of the holidays than the second, on average.

For this year, it turns out that the most expensive dates for a package holiday are from July 27 – August 3 and from August 3 – August 10.

Those weeks are the first two after most schools break up for the summer.

The cheapest week during the school summer break for a package deal is the final week, August 24 – 31.

The numbers also showed that the last two weeks of the summer holidays were cheaper for all the major holiday destinations Which? looked at.

That included Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Turkey, Bulgaria, Malta and Morocco.

The cheapest destination overall was Morocco, with a week’s all-inclusive trip costing £962 per person on average.

The second-cheapest package holiday destination this year is Malta (£1,080 per person), while Bulgaria is the third cheapest (£1,087 per person).

Portugal was the most expensive package destination on the list, costing £1,344 on average per person for a week-long all inclusive trip.

For those who are able to, travelling outside of school holiday time can save even more money.

Fewer people is another of the main reasons people should travel out of peak holiday season, according to Positive News.

They said: “Travelling outside of the peak season means fewer travellers.

“That’s fewer people arching their necks to see the Mona Lisa and shorter queues for the La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, to name a couple of examples. Even popular destinations like Greece and Sicily are much quieter.”

The costs are also much more affordable during off-peak season, with some places even doubling their costs during school holidays.

Positive News added: “It’s also not uncommon for rates to be raised during peak season. For example, accommodation prices in Faro, Portugal are up to 50 per cent lower out of peak season.”

Meanwhile, these little known tricks could save money on flights.
