Egg muffin recipe uses just four ingredients and is low in calories

A tasty, filling breakfast doesn’t have to be unhealthy, in fact, it’s easy to replicate classic fast-food recipes with a few simple ingredients.

The egg McMuffin is just one example, and a go-to item for many McDonald’s breakfast lovers – best known for its perfectly shaped, runny egg.

A TikTok chef has shared a quick low-calorie alternative to make instead of splashing out upwards of £3.19 a time.

In a video on his TikTok profile, weight loss coach Jack Cracknell (@coachingbycracknell) showed hungry Britons how to make it.

He said: “You absolutely need to try this McDonald’s egg McMuffin. Homemade and only 368 calories in each.”

Start by removing the outer skin of one sausage and ground the meat up in the bowl to make the patty mixture.

Season generously with salt and pepper plus a few herbs for good measure, then mould the mixture into a flat burger-style patty.

Prepare a pan with some low calorie cooking oil and add the sausage, frying it until nicely browned on one side.

Flip the patty over to cook it through on both sides, taking care not to overcook it. Once cooked, place a cheese slice on top then wait for it to melt while cooking the egg.

For the perfectly shaped egg, place a cookie cutter in the pan and crack the egg directly into it. Fry until the white is thick but almost cooked and yolk is somewhat set with a gooey core.

Just before the egg finishes cooking, slice the muffin in half and lightly toast. When golden, assemble the muffin by stacking up the sausage, egg and extra cheese on top with a sprinkle of black pepper.

Sandwich the muffin halves together then tuck in and enjoy.
