Crispy air fryer cauliflower wings are ‘slimming friendly’ – recipe

Air fryers are perfect for making food crispy and golden without using any oil at all, so they’re great for healthy eating.

And with the right flavours, even the most bland vegetables can be turned into a tasty takeaway-style dish like chicken wings.

As shared on the website Pinch of Nom, this recipe for air fryer cauliflower hot wings is simple to make plus, is dairy and gluten-free.

Described as “crispy, spicy and slimming friendly”, the nutritious florets are ideal for a weekend treat while helping to stay on track with a balanced diet.

While they’re served with hot sauce, any milk or yoghurt will work with the crunchy cauliflower wings, though it may change the calorie count of an otherwise 154-calorie portion.

Air fryer cauliflower wings

Start with a preheated air fryer set to 180C, then move on to preparing the vegetables. Cut the cauliflower into even-sized florets, ensuring they’re washed and dried to remove any dirt.

Cut a piece of greaseproof paper to fit the base of the fryer basket for later, then work on the seasoned batter. In a mixing bowl, combine the smoked paprika, chilli powder, onion granules, garlic granules, cumin and mustard powder.

Add the flour, salt and pepper then pour in the coconut milk (or alternative), whisking everything together until smooth.

Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter and allow the excess to drip off before laying them out on the greaseproof paper.

When they’re all prepared, transfer the sheet of greaseproof paper into the air fryer and cook for seven minutes.

After this time, spray the cauliflower with low-calorie cooking spray and sprinkle over the panko breadcrumbs before leaving them to cook for a further seven minutes.

To make the sauce, combine the hot sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Then, when the cauliflower has cooked, dip the florets into the hot sauce turning to coat.

Return them to the air fryer and leave for six minutes to fully crisp up. Any leftover breadcrumbs should be added to the fryer at this point too.

While the cauliflower finishes cooking, make the dip. Mix the yoghurt and Sriracha then serve everything at once.
