Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley trails former President Donald Trump by a mere four points in New Hampshire, according to the latest poll. The survey’s margin of error is also four points.

Haley has been trending upward in New Hampshire in recent months and may be peaking at the right time given the state’s Republican primary is on Jan. 23 – eight days after the Iowa Caucuses.

The poll was conducted by American Research Group between Dec. and Jan. 3 among 600 likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire. Trump leads Haley 37% to 33%. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is third with 10%. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis clocks in with 5%.

Haley has emerged as the favorite of anti-Trump Republican donors, taking a role once played by DeSantis, who was viewed as a serious challenger to the former president before foundering in the polls. Despite receiving the endorsement of Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, DeSantis trails Trump in that state by more than 30 points.

In New Hampshire, Haley notched the endorsement of Governor Chris Sununu, who has been an ardent critic of Trump. Haley has made noticeable gains on the former president since that endorsement in early December. Haley’s rise in the polls has predictably prompted criticisms and insults from Trump, under whom Haley served as ambassador to the United Nations. Trump has repeatedly called her “birdbrain” on his Truth Social platform.

The former has so far boycotted the GOP primary debates. On Wednesday, he will participate in a town hall on Fox News while Haley and DeSantis debate on CNN.
