Wishing to remain anonymous, the lady was cleaning her house preparing for a big festive celebration when she popped upon a barely used drawer and found the fortune sitting inside.

The amazed resident of Magdeburg, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, hadn’t seen the ticket in her desk draw since February 2021 and forgot it even existed until it reappeared.

It was for the local “Lotterie Super 6” lottery and turned out to be worth €100,000 (£86,765) even after such a long time had passed.

Local media reported on December 26, that the woman forgot to check her numbers until she once again found the ticket and decided to have another look at what the final numbers were.

On her win, the woman said: “I cannot believe it. It feels like rediscovering a forgotten treasure.”

Lotto-Toto Sachsen-Anhalt lottery enterprise director Stefan Ebert described the woman’s luck as incredible, saying she had a million-to-one chance of winning that much cash.

Other than being an older version of the tickets used in recent months her amazing find was still in an almost perfect condition, according to lottery officials.

The ecstatic lady has decided to spend her lucky thousands on a luxury holiday away.

A spokeswoman for the Lotto-Toto Sachsen-Anhalt tracked back the ticket and discovered that the same woman had placed £35 over four weeks on the same set of numbers.

The winner was purchased from a newsagents in the city centre of Magdeburg.

Despite this win being so unlikely there is reportedly a whole load of huge, unclaimed prizes from 2021 waiting to be snapped up on the lottery.

Officials in Saxony-Anhalt have revealed that anyone with an old ticket should seriously consider checking their numbers as over £572,000 worth of prize money is waiting to be handed out.

Anyone with a winning ticket from 2021 is still able to collect their money up until December 31, 2024.

Germany is crazy about their lottery with the business having achieved a whopping turnover of almost £7billion in 2022.

This equates to around seven million Germans regularly playing the lottery, according to pollsters IfD Allensbach.

A study found that 181 people won totals toppling over €1million last year.
